Youth Volunteering
Get involved by volunteering! You can meet new friends, develop new skills, and make a difference in your community. When youth have positive experiences giving back, they become invested in their communities. Today’s youth are the next generation of board members and philanthropists.
In the Sioux Empire, the Helpline Center hosts SALSA, (Serve and Learn Student Association), as a way to connect youth with opportunities to serve. SALSA is currently in eight high schools in the Sioux Empire community.
At the Helpline Center, we believe youth should be involved in their community. Helpline Center operates the Serve & Learn Student Association (SALSA) for over 600 participants at eight high schools in the Sioux Empire Area. SALSA is a way to connect high school students with opportunities to serve, by engaging them in volunteerism. This allows members to meet new friends, explore careers, gain leadership experience, earn hours for scholarship applications, and make a difference in their community.
SALSA is active in Roosevelt, Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Brandon Valley, Tea Area, Lennox public schools, and Sioux Falls Christian High School. SALSA is a club for all high school students to engage in service learning by volunteering at community nonprofit agencies. Monthly meetings are held in the schools, and students will hear from local nonprofits about how they can volunteer with the organization and complete a project. Throughout the month students also get together in large groups and go out to complete community events (called SALSA Wide Events) decided by the Youth Action Council.
