Sioux Falls Area Child Evangelism Fellowship

Anna is instrumental in co-leading Christian Youth in Action (CYIA) and other CEF events serving children throughout the year. Through CYIA, Anna meets students from around South Dakota for week-long training to lead dynamic 5-Day Clubs for kids. Anna’s ability to connect with children through interactive games and sharing the good news of Jesus with them is helping children know they matter to her and matter to God. We are thankful to see Anna positively impact lives and the next generation.

Daniel Hoskins assists with a wide variety of events and living history programs with Siouxland Heritage Museums. In addition, he helps rake leaves, assemble shelves, and shovel snow. Whether dressing as a soldier or doing lawn maintenance, he is always happy to lend a hand and help the museum share our community’s history.

Sioux Falls Area Child Evangelism Fellowship

For the past 4 years, or since he was 8, Jonezy Jones-Esquibel has made a meaningful impact on the community through the Eat Well Sioux Falls Mobile Market and various Sioux Falls Thrive events. Whether assisting with event setup and teardown, engaging with attendees as a mascot, or helping with door-to-door surveys, Jonezy’s hard work and positive attitude have uplifted both fellow volunteers and community members.

The Spirit of Volunteerism started early with Max. Max joins his Grandma Linda and her friends from Alpha Delta Kappa to serve lunch to the guests at the St Francis House. Volunteering has become one of Max’s favorite things, reminding him that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Philip Kue

Philip has a heart to serve his community and the people he sees on the street. With the help of his family, Philip put together 25 bags called “Pip Packs” that include a hat, gloves, t-shirt, hand warmers, bible, resource guide, and note. Philip then hand delivers the bags to individuals he sees on the street and introduces himself.

During its Sioux Falls grand opening last May, Les Schwab Tires showed its support the community by equipping the Eat Well Sioux Falls Mobile Market with a brand-new set of tires through its Tires for Purpose donation program. This generous gift helped keep the Mobile Market on the road, ensuring continued access to fresh food for local residents. Additionally, owner Les Schwab donated $475 in Mobile Market gift cards to Sioux Falls Thrive.

The construction staff at Habitat has greatly enjoyed working alongside this POET group every year! They show up ready to work with great attitudes and we look forward to having them. Last year they volunteered in the middle of August and sheeted a roof on a garage! We are thankful for their hard work and support of our mission!

Sunshine Foods - Sioux Falls

Family Visitation Center

For 10+ years, Sunshine Foods has graciously provided cupcakes for every child’s birthday celebration at FVC – a cupcake for the honoree and one for each person present for the party. These delicious professionally decorated cupcakes are generously provided for FVC birthday celebrations 52 weeks a year. Since the one hour at FVC is the only hour of the week children spend with their parents, birthdays need to be celebrated during their visit. Sunshine Foods makes these celebrations SWEET!

Alpha Center’s Board of Directors consists of eight individuals who have all graciously given of their time, talents and treasure to help Alpha Center thrive in many ways. From making important decisions regarding the organization to helping at events and assisting with jobs such as painting and landscaping, every member of the board has been actively involved in the work that is done at Alpha Center. Our team’s appreciation for each one of these amazing individuals cannot be overstated!

Bethel #38, Job's Daughters International

This remarkable group of dynamic young women, between the ages of 10 and 19, has dedicated countless hours to making blankets that were donated to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. They’ve also raised several hundred dollars to support the Hearing Improvement Kids Endowment fund, which purchases assistive hearing devices for Deaf children. Additionally, they have participated in a Fearlessly Kind Summit to improve their schools and community, empowering them to be the change they want to see.

The Davis Family

Lifeline Children's Services

In 2024, the Davis family hosted 5 children for a total of 68 days. These hostings included parents experiencing medical emergencies and a single mother facing challenges with addiction. In each of these cases, the Davis family loved the children in their care incredibly well and provided them with stability, which gave the children’s parents time to work through a crisis situation.

Ron and Diane volunteer every week by preparing mailings for our Cardiac Device Clinic. This saves the staff a tremendous amount of time, allowing them to better focus on our patients. Ron and Diane’s reliability, willingness to help, and positive attitudes are very inspiring!

The Family Selection Committee is a group of 14 individuals, seven men and seven women, who care deeply about people in the Greater Sioux Falls community who are facing housing challenges and barriers to home ownership. The committee members bring their unique skills and expertise to help Habitat staff process applications, interview applicants, set policies, and assess the ever-changing housing market.

They commit each week Monday mornings to the individuals in our LifeScape Specialty Pediatric Rehabilitation Hospital. EVERY week they are dedicated to and committed to bringing compassionate and creative joy to each person they meet. Their willingness to do not only what is right, but what is fun and engaging is incomparable.

Lunch is Served

Linda and Lori Heberling, the mother and daughter duo that have been volunteering every Monday night at Lunch is Served for over a decade! They are in charge of the kitchen. They keep it running smoothly from beginning to end! They make sure all of the supplies are ready for the volunteer groups that come to make the lunches. They are hospitable! All of the volunteers love working with them and there are many smiles coming from the kitchen! I would say that they have made over 200,000 sandwiches.

On the fourth Thursday of every month the “Big Kids” from the Robinson Family Day Care put down their crayons, and volunteer to serve lunch at the St Francis House. Guided by their caregiver Tracy, the children stand on their chairs and help serve up great food and unlimited smiles to our guests. Through their efforts, they learn the value of compassion, giving back, and making a meaningful impact on their community.

The Sioux Falls Thrive Board has been instrumental in guiding and supporting Thrive staff through critical challenges, especially the pilot phase of the first-ever mobile grocery store in Sioux Falls, and the state of South Dakota. Thrive’s designation as the community’s cradle-to-career workforce development initiative requires creative oversight by individuals with expertise in the needs of our most vulnerable children and families.

Toy Lending Library of South Dakota Board of Directors

This nomination is to our current and to all former Board Members of the Toy Lending Library of SD. The organization is celebrating its 10th anniversary and their work to guide the Toy Lending Library forward needs to be celebrated. With their support and expertise, the organization created 20 partnerships! Not only that but also more than 35,000 toy boxes were checked out/renewed since its humble beginnings in 2015. Can you imagine all the children that got to play and learn because of them?

Adi has helped with a variety of things including updating charts, assisting with events and sharing about Alpha Center’s services with college students. As a full-time college student herself, Adi helps however she can and shows love and compassion to those she communicates with. Adi’s work specifically in the area of college student outreach has proved invaluable to the clients who have needed Alpha Center’s services and discovered them as a result of Adi’s willingness to share with them.

Allie LaFave has always been a volunteer. She has been an LSS mentor for the last 10 years. she is a fierce advocate for children’s health and has volunteered thousands of hours for childhood cancer and is a Corporate Board member of HOBY. She recently founded Hope for Hearts to honor her late daughter and to assist families who have children with Heart disease.

Andrew is amazing at so many things! He has made a huge impact on the way we reach out to supporters of Lunch is Served. In one night he compiled all of our email addresses to create a monthly newsletter that provides a whole new avenue for us to get out the word about Lunch is Served. He is passionate about helping others and making Sioux Falls a better community. He is energetic and loves to solve issues quickly. He is an asset to the board and I am excited to see what he does next.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Britton’s grandfather passed away from cystic fibrosis in 2022. Britton was very close to her grandfather and volunteered at his golf tournament benefitting Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) for 13 years. In 2024, Britton volunteered at three of CFF’s events in Sioux Falls, providing over 35 hours of volunteer time. The CF community is fortunate to have Britton continue to honor her love of her grandfather by continuing to support the CF Foundation with her talents, time, and treasures.

Chelsea has shown remarkable leadership this past year, stepping into an interim position when there was a need and ensuring the success of her local service unit. Her dedication has kept the service unit strong and moving forward, making a significant impact on the community. Her proactive approach has helped maintain continuity and stability for the Girl Scouts and volunteers involved.

Doria volunteered more than 200 hours in the past year towards so many wonderful Sioux Falls nonprofits. As a board member for five organizations, she strives to give her all to causes that help others. From soliciting sponsorships for staple Sioux Falls nonprofits events- helping to generate a $1M economic impact in the community, to spending her weekends serving meals to those in need, Doria finds any avenue she can to serve others.

Emily makes a difference every day in the lives of girls and women with disabilities through South Dakota Miss Amazing. She works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure all the needs of the volunteers are met, as well as doing outreach for several hours to find more volunteers, and secure donations. Emily is a great asset to the Miss Amazing team and a tremendous volunteer.

Lori currently is a Children’s Hospital Volunteer where she warmly greets patients and visitors and shows them the way to their appointment. Many people can be anxious when they come to the hospital, but Lori helps them feel welcome and comfortable.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Morgan’s grandfather passed away from cystic fibrosis in 2022. Morgan was very close to her grandfather and volunteered at his golf tournament benefitting Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) for 13 years. Laura has volunteered for the past two years, primarily in a client services capacity. She meets with clients for education appointments, assists them as they use their earned Baby Bucks in Alpha Center’s Baby Boutique, and occasionally sits at the front desk to greet clients as they arrive. She meets clients with kind words and a smile, and helps them in whatever way she can. Her willingness to do clerical projects has also been very helpful for the staff.

Nicole Audette

Nicole has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the Sioux Falls community through her volunteer work with several organizations. At Feeding South Dakota, she has helped combat hunger by assisting in the distribution of food to those in need. With the Veterans Community Project, Nicole has supported veterans by contributing to initiatives aimed at providing housing and resources. Her involvement with the YMCA Leif Ericson Day Camp has enriched the lives of children by participating in activities that promote youth development. Additionally, at Almost Home Canine Rescue, Nicole has played a vital role in rescuing and rehoming dogs, ensuring they find loving families. Her unwavering commitment has significantly impacted numerous lives, embodying the spirit of community service.

Call to Freedom

Phil strives to make a meaningful impact in any way he can for clients of Call to Freedom. Phil is an active member on our volunteer moving team – always going above & beyond to ensure that clients have any items they need to make their home really feel like home. He is often the first to step up & offer help when there is a request. Phil also volunteers monthly picking up food donations & dropping them off at our office for clients to have. He is a strong & committed volunteer!

Rachel volunteers her time & talents with Call to Freedom as an advocate for prevention & education among the community, specifically with youth. Her advocacy goes beyond just volunteering – it is a driving force for broader awareness & action. Rachel is a positive light to anybody that she interacts with & has a deep passion for impacting the lives of youth through a preventative curriculum that equips students with the necessary skills & knowledge to decrease risk of sexual abuse.

Senior Companion Program of South Dakota

Regina is devoted to bringing happiness to those she serves, and her clients often describe her as a best friend. She travels many miles to ensure they can attend medical appointments, visit the pharmacy, and shop for groceries all while consistently going out of her way to help other Senior Companion volunteers. She sets an excellent example for our new Senior Companions, and we truly appreciate her and the time she dedicates!

With a heart as big as her dedication, Rogene has groomed nearly 30 dogs in the past year. She took neglected pups in pain from heavy, thick mats to bouncing around with a fresh ‘do and a fresh perspective. These grooms are critical for addressing health concerns and helping the dogs find loving new families.

For 10 years Shane has been the driving force behind SiouxperCon. As Convention Director, Shane led the team to record attendance, record profits with over 1 million contributed to the Sioux Falls economy & record donations to local charities. Leading a volunteer staff of 55 and 100 weekend convention volunteers by example greeting the over 11,000 attendees, thanking the over 200 vendors and caring for the 50 plus celebrity guests. He is always first to arrive and last to leave.

Stacy is a Wayfinder Volunteer who helps patients, families and visitors find their way around the hospital, along with making deliveries to patients. She is always smiling, cheerful and making the most out of every day that she is here. She is a go getter, up for any task that she asked to help with! She takes time to just walk the halls to help anyone who may be lost and help them find their way. We are so lucky to have her as a Sanford Volunteer!

Allen has been a volunteer with Call to Freedom for years, showing his passion for serving victims of human trafficking. He volunteers in a variety of capacities & is always offering to do more as needs arise. Allen is part of the volunteer moving team & always makes himself available to help when there are clients in need. As President of the Sioux Falls Master Gardeners, Arlene played a key role in Sioux Falls Thrive’s Food Security Action Team gleaning project. Not only did she get funding for the project from Thrivent, but Arlene also procured 203 pounds of fresh produce. Her efforts along with much community help provided a variety of frozen meals and canned goods, expanding access to nutritious food for the community!

Avera McKennan Hospital

Jim greets our patients when they come in to the Surgical Center. He welcomes the patient and their families with his warm smile and quick wit. He is kind and shows compassion in all of his interactions. Jim has volunteered with Avera McKennan for 20 years contributing 5,521 hours. The majority of his hours have been between Patient Escorting and ASC guide. He encompasses Avera’s CARE standards in all of his interactions. He received the President’s Call to Service in 2019.

Kris is faithfulness personified.  Smiling, friendly, and always ready to help, Kris has a big heart, welcoming attitude and warm smile.  She is active in OSL Quilting, providing quilts for those who are need.  She is the key Leader of our communion ministry, active with Food to You,  and many fund raisers.  A tireless helper, “she is a role model for me as she actively, yet very humbly, lives out her faith and serves others endlessly,” says Becca, her daughter.  Kris has been a member of OSL for over 40 years, and has always been giving of her time and thoughtfulness.

Family Visitation Center

Lonny has been faithfully creating and delivering handmade birthday, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc. cards to FVC since 2017. Beaming with pride and joy, children painstakingly select, autograph, and present a card to parents during their visit. Fathers sign Mother’s Day cards with their children (and vice versa). When the recipient receives these signed cards (whose workmanship would shame Hallmark), their reaction often includes emotional tears of joy. Lonny is a gift to FVC.

LifeScape

Mary has been a top fundraiser and enthusiastic promoter of LifeScape since she became actively involved in 2011 and joined the Foundation board in 2014. As LifeScape raises funds for a new children’s services campus, Mary has led the way, securing donations of $1,735,266.53 for the project, the most of any current board member. She challenges other board members to raise money, attend LifeScape events, and continue to learn about the organization.

Melva is a committed volunteer of Call to Freedom, always seeking out additional opportunities. She dedicates time whenever needed to help staff stay up to date on all sorts of administrative tasks. Melva played a huge role in Call to Freedom’s annual Community Breakfast Fundraiser this past year. She helped with preparation beforehand, helped during the event the day of, & helped get everything organized when the event was over. She is quick to take the lead & is a constant friendly face.

Avera McKennan Hospital

Pat has volunteered at Avera McKennan since February 2012. She has volunteered over 2600 hours. Pat has volunteered in a few areas. Most recently she is the big smile in the lobby of Plaza 2 on the main campus. She welcomes all patients and visitors, helping them find where they need to be. Pat has taken “ownership” of the Welcome Desk. On top of guiding our guests, she helps the valets while they are out gathering cars. She is such a gem to have be the first contact of our patients

Paula volunteers as Club coordinator for the Sioux Falls Area Child Evangelism Fellowship Chapter serving at Beresford Elementary School. Paula is the founding leader of this Club and is committed to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and serving children and families in her community. Going out of her way to care for families, Paula’s kindness and generosity significantly impact the students who attend Good News Clubs each week.
