Program Information

Provides rental and utility assistance for South Dakota residents. Assistance provided is not a loan and does not have to be paid back. Payment is made directly to the landlord or utility provider on the applicant's behalf. Funding amount is based on need. Must meet the following criteria:

• Income qualifications (vary by county)
• One or more individuals in the household has qualified for unemployment benefits, experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs or experienced other financial hardship due to, or unexpected hardship.
• One or more individuals in the household have a past due utility bill, rent notice, or are able to prove that they are at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

• To receive additional funding after their original assistance period has passed applicants should not complete a new application. The opportunity to apply for additional funding will appear on the applicant's dashboard when they become eligible to reapply. Applicants are also free to reach out to their caseworker directly with questions about additional funding.

Eligibility

Must be a renter;Have income at or below 80% of AMI for respective county;Owe past due rent or utilities or unable to pay current expenses.
