Public Transit Program at Brookings Area Transit Authority
Brookings - Western Avenue
Offers transportation service for everyone within Brookings County. Passengers can schedule rides to work, school, medical appointments, activities, shopping trips, Sioux Falls Regional Airport, and more. Passengers need to schedule their rides at least one day before transportation is needed. Offers door-to-door service.
BATA is a Medicaid provider and medical transportation may be covered by eligible Medicaid recipients.

- Assistance for people who have a job/new employment and need help getting there
- This assistance does NOT require an appointment;can be walk-in
- Provides 30-day bus passes and $50.00 gas vouchers. Both are available once every 12 months.
- Proof of employment is required for a bus pass.
- Gas voucher requires proof of employment, valid driver's license, valid vehicle registration, and valid vehicle insurance policy
- Car repairs where the vehicle is needed for employment.
- Requires proof of employment, valid driver's license, valid vehicle registration, and valid vehicle insurance policy.
- Must not have had work done on vehicle due to specific auto shops who accept voucher in Sioux Falls.
- Up to $300.00 available.
- This assistance requires an appointment.
- Only available once per lifetime.
Health and Social Needs Transportation Program at Helpline Center
Health and Social Needs Transportation at Sioux Falls Site
Lyft rides are available for varying health and social needs. Rides must be for a medical or social service need that meets an essential/basic need (i.e. getting food, going to work, etc.). Criteria needs to meet one of the following:
- Dow Rummel residents
- Vaccinations for adults
- Older adults (65+)
- Individuals with disabilities
- Rides that meet a medical or social need (no age limit on this category)
Rides are not guaranteed until client intake is approved by Helpline Center Transportation Specialist.
