The Register of Deeds Office is the vital records library for the county.

The office records deeds, mortgages, assignments & addendums to mortgages, satisfactions, easements, UCC's, affidavits, plats, military discharges, powers of attorney, miscellaneous records, etc.

The office files Federal Tax Liens, SD Sales Tax Liens, Reemployment Assistance Compensation Liens, UCC's, Fictitious Business Name Registrations, Mechanic's Liens, Locations Notices, etc.

The office issues Marriage Licenses, Certified copies of Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates, Military Discharges, and certified copies of recorded documents, credit searches on Federal Tax Liens, Sales Tax Liens and Unemployment Tax Liens.

The office maintains files of birth, death, marriage, military discharges, burial records, Federal Tax Liens, Sales Tax Liens, and Reemployment Assistance Compensation Liens.

The Register of Deeds office works closely with the public, as well as other governmental municipalities, planning and zoning offices, land title companies, banks and other financial institutions, land surveyors, real estate businesses;and various state departments and agencies, including, but not limited to, the South Dakota Secretary of State's office, the South Dakota Department of Health, the South Dakota Department of Revenue, and the South Dakota Department of Transportation.

Services include issuing marriage licenses, Land records from the late 1800's - present, Vital Records including birth, death, and marriage, and Recording of all documents pertaining to real estate such as: plats, deeds, mortgages, and contracts.

This office is responsible for record deeds, mortgages, satisfactions, UCC's and other property documents, county, state, and federal liens, issuing marriage licenses, birth, death and marriage certificates, and cemetery/burial records.

Records real estate records such as deeds, mortgages, satisfactions, leases, and plats. Files federal and state tax liens, mechanics liens, county poor liens, fictitious name, Military Discharges and UCC. Issues marriages licenses and certified birth, death, and marriage records.

The Register of Deeds issues and/or files marriage licenses, birth and death certificates, burial permits, real estate transactions (including deeds, mortgages and mortgage transfers), federal and state tax liens, state unemployment tax liens, military discharge records, and business name registrations. The Register of Deeds is also responsible for recording all liens, survey plat certificates and county welfare liens. The Register of Deeds is the official county record keeper.

This office is responsible for recording of all land records for Brookings County such as deeds, mortgages, and miscellaneous real estate documents;land owner information for any real estate in Brookings County and copies of land records, Filing of documents including UCC's, Federal Tax Liens, State Tax Liens, Mechanics Liens, lien satisfactions, Power of Attorney papers, Fictitious Business Name Forms, and Military Discharge papers, and issuing marriage licenses for marriages performed in South Dakota. Issues certified copies of South Dakota births, South Dakota death and South Dakota marriages.
