Job Service Office Program at South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation

The Job Service Office is ready to help job seekers identify opportunities and prepare for productive employment through the following services:
Employment Services - Staff can help identify career interests, write a resume, prepare for a job interview and access appropriate training. Job listings are posted from local employers, state-wide employers, and federal and state government agencies. Job search assistance classes are available in addition to computers to conduct a job search or apply on-line. All individuals seeking employment or information about the local labor market receive assistance at no charge.
Veterans Employment Representatives - Job search information, help with resume writing and cover letters, and preparations for interviews. Eligibility determinations for special programs and services that employ and train veterans. Information on how to apply for federal, state, county and city employment. Employment information for newly separated or transitioning service members. Assistance with cross-matching military skills to civilian employment. Direct referrals to job openings. Intensive services and employment assistance for disabled veterans;those with a military disability, may also qualify for vocational rehabilitation services.
Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act - An employment and training program designed to provide services increasing skills for adults and youth that will result in employment and an increase in earnings. Individualized program to overcome employment barriers including: Work readiness skills;Interview tips;Resume Writing;Employment Counseling and GED or High School Diploma completion.
Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired - Sioux Falls Program at South Dakota Department of Human Services
Sioux Falls - 811 E. 10th Street
State agency that works with individuals who are blind and or visually impaired in the area of employment and independent living.
Services that are available if eligibility is met and or economic need include Diabetic education, Vocational counseling, Job placement, Training in specialized skills of blindness (cane, travel, braille, daily living), Job development, On-the-job training, Guidance and counseling, Job follow-up, Restoration, Assistive technology services, Job retention, Funding for training, Funding for eye surgery (If economic need is met), and Low Vision services (includes a visual examination conducted by a trained specialist in the field of low vision, assessment of visual functioning of individual needs and goals, prescriptions for specialized low vision devices, and individualized training).
Care Center Program at Center of Hope
Sioux Falls Site
The Care Center is the hub of many resources at the Center of Hope. Services provided include:
- Computers and phone/fax
- Guests can use, at no charge, for resume and employment/job searching
- Pastoral Care
- Individuals can receive one on one counseling with the pastoral team, including getting connected with the Earn-Your-Way program
Weekly programs include:
- Wednesday
- 9:30am - 11:00am, - Women's Coffee Break and Men's Life Bible study groups (During the school year)
- Tuesday
- 9:30am - Transition to Transformed Bible Study, lead by Center of Hope staff at the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House.
Felon-Friendly Landlord and Employment Lists Program at Center of Hope
Sioux Falls Site
An up-to-date felon-friendly landlord and employment list. Available in-person at the Center of Hope and online.
Lists are updated every 3 months with details on application fees, deposit amounts, and which types of offenders are allowed/not allowed.
National Farmworker Jobs Program Program at Black Hills Special Services Cooperative
National Farmworkers Job Program at Sioux Falls Site
Providing assistance to those who have worked on a farm or ranch within the past two years. If eligible, depending upon availability of funds, services may include: on the job training assistance, job search/placement assistance, financial support for education training and job placement, and supportive services such as, but not limited to: rental assistance and transportation costs, daycare expenses, tools, uniforms, and food.
