A therapeutic place of residence for persons suffering from substance use disorders and mental illness. Offering dignity and serenity to continue the journey of recovery, healing, and wholeness.
Serenity Hills offers 3 distinct programs:
-Social setting detoxification
-Halfway house combines a strong AA 12-step philosophy with a multi-disciplinary team approach, including professional addiction, psychiatric and mental health care.
-Crisis intervention/Appropriate Regional Facility/Safe Rooms for individuals experiencing mental health crisis and/or having thoughts of self-harm.
Teen Challenge of the Dakotas Program at Teen Challenge of the Dakotas
Brookings - W. 16th Street
The 16-month program consists of 5 phases of induction, training, and Re-Entry.
- The first 10 months include the 4 phases of induction and training.
- The 5th and final phase of Re-Entry is 6 months in length and consists of further discipleship and assistance in transitioning back into the real world.
Safe Home Program at Minnehaha County

Safe Home is a Housing First model program that involves the program components of case management, groups, monitoring, and community. It provides dignified, affordable housing and supportive services to individuals experiencing long term homelessness and alcohol dependence.
It is an apartment building and is not a temporary or emergency shelter. Referrals may be made by anyone (self, friend, family, professionals).
SHARE Program (Transitional Housing) Program at Southeastern Behavioral Healthcare
Sioux Falls - W. Russell Street
The transitional housing is part of the Community Support Services division of Southeastern. Psychiatric services to adults diagnosed with a severe mental illness who are in need of case management and/or medication management is provided.
The transitional housing is an 11 bed facility (each with their own private bathroom) that provides supportive services to individuals who are homeless or currently residing in an unstable environment who have a substance use disorder as well as a severe mental illness.
This is a sober living environment. Residents are provided 2 meals per day Monday - Friday and 3 meals Saturdays and Sundays. Residents are expected to participate in constructive daily activity outside of the transitional facility 9:00am - 3:00pm, Monday - Friday. Life skills groups and assistance with medication management are also provided. On site laundry.
Inpatient Treatment for Women Program at Volunteers of America, Dakotas
Sioux Falls - W. 51st Street
Inpatient / residential drug and alcohol treatment program for women 18 and older who are pregnant, or have children. New Start teaches parenting and child care skills while providing help in education and other areas, such as employment skills, independent living, health and nutrition, addressing chemical dependency, mental health and legal problems.
