Primarily provides food to those in need. Also provides the following when available - gas cards, clothing, diapers, personal hygiene items, and cleaning supplies.
Earn While You Learn Program at Haven Center
Watertown Site
An education-based system for earning material items for your child. Offers lessons applicable to to any stage of pregnancy up until age 2. Participation in the program rewards clients with incentive points that can be redeemed for material items.
Hygiene and Household Cleaning Supplies Program at Building Our Families
Watertown Site
Provides personal hygiene items and household cleaning essentials to individuals who are in need. Quantity of items is based on household size and all items requested will be provided if in stock. Assistance may be requested once every 30 days, as needed. Pick up site for items is at the Watertown Department of Labor. Please do not stop into the Department of Labor Office to request assistance. This is only a pick up/drop off location.
Pregnancy Services Program at Option 1
Brookings Site
Medical Services: No cost and confidential pregnancy testing and limited ultrasound services. Call for an appointment.
STI/STD testing: performed following a positive pregnancy test.
Support Services: One on one meetings with a trained volunteer, covering pregnancy & parenting topics. After each visit, clients earn baby supplies. No cost.
Post Abortion Support: Trained volunteers walk the client through a post-abortion healing curriculum.
Options Consultation: Patients receive facts on each pregnancy option.
Adoption Referral: Assists clients in finding agencies that will guide them through the process and answer any questions.
Hot Meal Program at Harvest Table
Brookings Site
A no-cost warm, home-cooked meal served every Monday night (except major holidays).
- Supervised children's area with activities
- Diapers and baby wipes are available each week
- Household items (toilet paper, etc.)
- Personal care items (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.)
Spanish-Speaking Community Group Program at Bienvenidos a Brookings
Brookings Site
Works to bring immigrants, immigrant advocates, and non-immigrant community members together to deepen their relationships and cultural understanding. Nearly all efforts are focused on Latin immigrants.
For immigrant families in need:
- Can provide food, furniture, school supplies, household items, and diapers
Also provides:
- Organizing community English classes and connecting ESL volunteers with new English language learners
- Networking with immigration service providers in Eastern South Dakota
- Creating a general referral service for immigrants needing assistance
- Arranging translation services when needed
- Assisting families with their efforts to change immigration status
- Community outreach to educate the non-immigrant community about obstacles immigrants experience in the Brookings area
