Black Hills Fireworks Information – 2023
Overview: Where permitted, South Dakota law permits the discharge of fireworks between June 26 and July 9, 2023. The illegal use of fireworks is punishable by a fine of up to $500, 30-days in jail, or both. Citations may be issued after 11:00pm or any time of day when someone is reckless or negligent with fireworks.
Restrictions: Areas in the Black Hills with fireworks restrictions (other than novelty fireworks such as party poppers, snappers, sparklers and toy caps) include:

- Pennington County other than Rapid City: discharge of fireworks allowed when grassland fire index allows. Click here for map.
- Rapid City and a one-mile radius from city limits
- Hill City

- Box Elder permits discharge of fireworks within city limits from July 1-4, 2023, between 9:00am and 11:00pm.
